This may come as a surprise to some but technology isn’t making us lazy or fat. While many of our daily activities have become automated, this has also increased our productivity, allowing for more free time to take care of ourselves. With automation we can enjoy lives filled with less stress, more time for family, and time to do what we actually enjoy! Here are 7 ways technology helps us to stay healthier.

1. Constant tracking of our physical activity

With Apple watches, Samsung Smart Watches, Fitbits, and even your smart phone tracking how many steps you take and how many flights of stairs you climb, you’d be hard pressed to find a person that doesn’t know where they stand at the end of each day when it comes to physical fitness. Whether you think your Fitbit is lying to you or swore you walked more than 10,000 steps last Saturday at the mall, we each have a convenient baseline of how well we are performing.

No longer do busy people have to live with leftover Chinese takeout containers, half empty ketchup bottles, and a random beer in their fridge. With grocery delivery, you can come home from work and with the tap of a button have your favorite healthy foods hand picked and delivered to your front door. Almost every store offers home delivery, reasonable prices, and the chance to have fresh produce whenever you run out. This allows us to have healthy snacks around, shop more frequently-meaning less food waste, and not stress over carving out time in our busy schedule to get mini carrots for our kids.

In addition to having healthy groceries delivered, we can also have full meal kits delivered each week, recipe and instructions included. This takes the guesswork out of having to plan healthy meals every night of the week. Just open your meal box and find easy directions, pre-measured fresh ingredients and a picture of how to plate your creation. It’s like the best thing invented since Costco rotisserie chickens.

In the modern era, technology helps us be more productive, in return, leaving us less stressed. Even simple things like having Siri remind us we have a conference call tomorrow at 7, let our brain relax and not be in a constant battle to remember every little detail. Making lists and not even having to remember to read them, really reduces the small stressors that add up throughout the day.

If you haven’t heard of Avocado Toast your living under a rock. We live in a society that is open to trying new things, especially things that can benefit long term health, wellness, and energy. Having this open environment allows us to learn about new things from each other and not be shy when trying new creations like a Tumeric Latte.

I’m sure you’ve heard about the benefits of meditation and were curious to give it a try but didn’t know where to start. Luckily with the download of one app you can be guided to enjoy meditation bliss. This easy access allows us to meditate on our schedule and not miss a day in our routine.

Want to exercise, but don’t want to go to the gym? With online gym classes, free Youtube workouts, and at home guided workout mirrors, you can workout from the comfort of your own home…even in your PJ’s if you so dare. There’s no excuse for not staying on track.

Having trouble keeping track of what you eat throughout the day? Don’t know how many grams of protein are in that piece of fish or how many Cheese-its you can eat without going over your calorie count for the day? There’s an app for that. Some apps even have scanning capabilities so you don’t have to type in the name of the food. This is just another way to save time and be more efficient in keeping track of your health goals.

Being healthy and fit can be a challenge, but with the level of technology and automation we have today it makes the whole process just a little smoother and a lot less stressful. Here’s to a future of health and happiness for everyone!
